Agriculture Dive: USDA invests $138M to boost specialty crop competitiveness

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Monday announced two U.S. Department of Agriculture investments designed to support specialty crop farmers. The launch of the Assisting Specialty Crop Exports initiative will provide $65 million for projects that help the specialty crop sector increase global exports and expand into new markets, the USDA said.

The U. S Department of Agriculture (USDA) is issuing final Emergency Relief Program (ERP) payments totaling approximately $306 million to eligible commodity and specialty crop producers who incurred losses due to natural disasters in 2020 and 2021. USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will begin issuing these additional payments to eligible producers this week.

Penn Watch: PA Awards $3 Million To Implement Conservation Practices on Pennsylvania Farmland, Improving Soil and Water Quality

Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today announced that the Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission approved the allocation of $3.0 million to be granted to four organizations under the framework of the Conservation Excellence Grant Program. Centre County Conservation District – Centre County, Tier 3 – Awarded $510,000. Franklin County Conservation District – Franklin County, Tier 2 – Awarded $300,000.
