Globally, invasive species account for $423bn in losses each year, with a significant portion concentrated in the United States. They are estimated to cost US $120bn in damages annually, though the number has probably changed as the latest assessment dates back to 2005.

The Biden administration is spending $3.1 billion to convince farmers and ranchers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester carbon in the ground. It also hopes that the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grants will help make amends for a century of systemic discrimination by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) against Black, Native and other “historically underserved” farmers.

Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Pa., hopes so, as this is when he plans to finally get a new farm bill on the House floor. Thompson said March is the soonest he will be able to get a new farm bill on the floor, as at least three weeks are needed to get it from his desk to the House Agriculture Committee and then to the House floor. Thompson is chairman of the House Ag Committee.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced today that 15 projects in the state’s northcentral region were awarded a total of $2,478,520 through DEP’s Growing Greener Plus grant program. These projects work to protect waterways and watersheds, reclaim abandoned mine sites, and work to reclaim and plug abandoned oil and gas wells. This year’s awards exceed $12 million statewide.
