NACD: NACD Releases 2023 Farm Bill Recommendations Today, the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) released policy recommendations for the 2023 Farm Bill. Over the last year, NACD’s Farm Bill Task Force has convened to review USDA conservation programs and consider policies to strengthen support for voluntary, locally led conservation efforts. NACD: NACD Solicits Applications for its Historically Underserved Farmer-to-Farmer Outreach Grant Program The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) issued a request for applications to solicit proposals for historically underserved farmer-to-farmer outreach and on-the-ground projects that mitigate hypoxic conditions in the Gulf of Mexico. USDA: USDA Seeking Applications to Expand Conservation Assistance to Underserved Producers USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering up to $70 million in cooperative agreements with entities for two-year projects that encourage participation in NRCS programs, especially in underserved communities and among urban and small-scale producers. EPA: EPA Announces Upcoming Virtual Regional Listening Sessions on the PFAS Strategic Roadmap The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is announcing a series of upcoming virtual listening sessions on EPA’s PFAS Strategic Roadmap. Each session will provide opportunities for communities to share feedback directly with EPA Regional and program leaders to inform the implementation of the actions described in the Roadmap. NFWF: NFWF Announces Release of America the Beautiful Challenge 2023 Request for Proposals The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced the release of the 2023 request for proposals for the America the Beautiful Challenge program, dedicated to funding landscape-scale conservation and restoration projects that implement existing conservation plans across the nation. USDA: USDA Announces First Permanent Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the appointment of L’Tonya Davis as its first permanent Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
Washakie County Conservation District: Grow Washakie Rural Living Workshop Washakie County Conservation District was awarded funding to host a Rural Living Workshop, Grow Washakie. This workshop will provide educational opportunities on topics for growing and preserving food. Valley Morning Star: TPWD Urging Texans to Fight Back Against Invasive Species The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) discusses some of the most prevalent invasive species in the state, and what residents of Texas can do to prevent their spread. NBC Montana: Missoula Conservation District Awards 7 Grants to Support Local Efforts The Missoula Conservation District awarded a total of seven grants from their winter grant cycle to support local conservation efforts. The Meadville Tribune: State Announces Expanded Funding to Grow Farm Businesses The Pennsylvania Agricultural Business Development Center has boosted funding by $200,000 to meet demand for Farm Vitality Planning Grants. Colorado Politics: New Mexico Governor Signs Law to Help Wildfire, Flooding Recovery The Governor of New Mexico recently signed a bill to use zero-interest loans to help local governments in the arid, Southwest state repair or replace public infrastructure damaged by wildfires or subsequent flooding. The Meadville Tribune: Vision 2023: Crawford County Conservation District Armed with new funding from the state, the Crawford County Conservation District is aiming high with efforts to use $2.6 million toward implementing Best Management Practices over the next three years. Richland Source: Richland Soil & Water Conservation District kicks off 75th year Brian Alt, Richland Soil and Water Conservation District Board Supervisor Chairperson led a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 18 to kick off the district’s 75th anniversary. Morning Ag Clips: Clemson Study Finds Fall-Winter Cover Crops Help Soybeans Grow in Southeastern Clayey Soils A team of Clemson University researchers has found soybean crop performance improved after planting cover crops during the fall-winter season in South Carolina’s clayey soils. Drovers: Smith Family Farms Receives Oklahoma Leopold Conservation Award Smith Family Farms has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Oklahoma Leopold Conservation Award, a prestigious award recognizes farmers, ranchers and forestland owners who inspire others with their dedication to land, water and wildlife habitat resources in their care. NRCS: NRCS Texas Offering Grants up to $200,000 through the Partners for Conservation Program The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Texas recently announced grant opportunities for partners to receive funding through its Texas Partners for Conservation Program. The application period closes on April 24, 2023. The Jamestown Sun: Ducks Unlimited Accepting Applications for Soil Health and Grazing Programs Ducks Unlimited, in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, is announcing the opening of the first application process of its collaborative Regional Conservation Partnership Program. The Daily News: Naas Farms of Oakfield named Conservation Farm of the Year The Genesee County Soil and Water Conservation District has awarded Naas Farms, LLC., of Oakfield with the Conservation Farm of the Year Award for its commitment to conservation. ABC 7: Invasive Tree Taking Over Lee County Landscape The melaleuca tree has contributed to the destruction of wetlands throughout the state. Experts say it’s among one of the worst invasive species in Florida.
