When a historic 1,000-year flood struck Hamilton County, Indiana, many residents with private wells were left with an immediate question: Is my water safe to drink? Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) already offers well-water testing services, so staff first connected with the Hamilton County Health Department to determine what assistance was already available and where the greatest need remained.
USDA: USDA Invests in America’s Beef and Ag Producers with Funding for Value-Added Agriculture

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced today the awarding of over $26 million to farmers and agricultural producers across the country through the USDA Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG) Program. Entities can use these grant funds to develop value-added agricultural products, conduct market research, and implement business and marketing strategies.

The Luzerne Conservation District received funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to reclaim three piles and embankments of coal waste, remove a historic mining structure and sample the water coming out of the cave, according to Larson Design Group, which is working on the project.

For more than 15 years, the Bureau of Land Management’s Arizona State Office and the Arizona Association of Conservation Districts (AACD) have built a robust partnership, improving conservation efforts across Arizona’s diverse rangelands. Through a series of statewide agreements beginning in 2010, BLM Arizona and AACD have coordinated efforts with cooperating agencies, mining operations, cattle grower associations, and individual producers to maximize the impact of conservation investments.
